**This is not going to be fitness-based. If you want more informative/inspirational healthy stuff and don't care (or need) to have assistance on applying for jobs in the summer, tune in tomorrow..or the day after**
Well today I had an interview at GNC. As a nutrition major and a person who lives an active and healthy lifestyle, it naturally makes sense for someone in my position to apply for a place at GNC. For those who have no idea what GNC does, GNC is built around sports nutrition and supplementation. I walked in confident and with a smile on my face. The manager was extremely courteous and he's also a fellow Pirate (thanks, ECU!). The interview went well and he said I was a strong candidate. The only reason I wouldn't get hired is because training is so extensive and I'm going to leave for college in August. All in all, it was a nice opportunity. I've applied for many jobs in the past 2 days. In fact, I applied for one this morning and I received a call back a few hours after I submit it. I have an interview set up for Monday. I also was told I'd likely get call back from another place I applied to this morning after turning my application in in-person.
For those who are looking for a summer job, I highly recommend looking on Snag A Job (www.snagajob.com). They have the hiring status for all jobs in your area and areas close by.
Here are some links to looking for and applying for a job, whether you have work experience or not:

Now a major aspect in getting hired is to have a resume. Yes that 8.5 x 11 sheet could be the key to you walking into a job everyday or walking to your fridge, back to your room with the TV blaring and no money in your pocket. Now I am very fortunate to have a father who is a hiring manager, a sister who has had two corporate jobs and a mother who, well, just knows how to construct a damn good resume! But if you're not that lucky, fret not because I've got your back. I'm posting links below, again for this who have work experience and for those who do not on how to build a great resume.

The last thing I'm going to hit is the cover letter. Now, I'm not a huge fan of these because I like to believe that whatever I put in my resume should suffice. But remember when you applied for college and your guidance counselor always said "if there is an essay portion it is in your best interest to do it?" Yeah this is the same concept. A cover letter is used to express your interest in working for Company XYZ (because you need that M-O-N-Ey) and you want to paint yourself in the best light possible. Your cover letter is your selfie of the application, so to speak. All the effort you put into looking fabulous for your next Insta shot should go into this. Now, I'm not going to break down the cover letter into Work and Non-working experience pieces because they are constructed in a similar fashion. The tip I would give in the case of "work experience" would be to explain why you're qualified for the company you are interested in using an experience you encountered at a previous job. Also remember that a cover letter is generally the first document an employer will see.
